What are the hours of Enlighten?

The Enlighten program of events runs on 2 – 18 March 2018.

  • Architectural Projections run from 2 – 11 March 2018 and are on from 8pm until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and until 10pm every other night.

What buildings will have architectural projections?

Australian Parliament House, Old Parliament House, National Library of Australia, Questacon, National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia will be illuminated by stunning architectural projections.

Does it cost anything to go to Enlighten?

The programming at attractions includes a range of free and ticketed events.  Pricing details are specified against each event. When tickets are released you will be able to purchase tickets from www.ticketek.com

The activities and entertainment in the Enlighten Main Stage and Parliamentary Triangle are free.

Can I bring a chair to Enlighten?

Yes, chairs are allowed however Enlighten is less about sitting in one place and more about roaming and exploring. If you do decide to bring a chair, please be considerate of the comfort and safety of other patrons.

Are there any free events?

The area in the Parliamentary Triangle referred to as the Enlighten Main Stage is an outdoor entertainment hub. Surrounded by buildings lit with architectural projections, the Enlighten Main Stage and surrounding areas offers a variety free entertainment.

What happens if I miss the night of the event that I have a ticket for?

Tickets will not be exchanged or refunded unless the event is cancelled.

What happens to lost property?

Lost Property can be reported to/collected from the Information Marquee. After the event please phone 02 6205 0666 for any lost property enquiries. Any items not claimed by Monday 3 April will be donated to charity.

How do I find my way around Enlighten?

Download our free app which includes a map of Enlighten. This map will help you to find your way around the event site, showing the location of food and drink, toilet facilities, activities and entertainment.

How do you download the free Enlighten app?

  1. Open your app store.
  2. Search ‘Enlighten Canberra’
  3. Click the ‘install’ button.

Ticketing

Where can I buy tickets to Enlighten?

Paid ticketed events

Ticketek is the primary event ticketing agent for Enlighten paid events.

The following options are available for purchasing Enlighten tickets:

Ticketek:

  • Online – Book online at ticketek.com
  • Phone – Call 13 28 49
  • In Person – Purchase in person at any Ticketek agency or outlet.
  • Venue – Subject to availability, tickets may be purchased at each venue on the evening of the event. Tickets will only be sold one hour before the scheduled start time of the event.

Tickets purchased from the venue box office on the evening of the event will incur an additional surcharge.

Visitors to Enlighten are strongly advised to secure tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

Free events

There are a number of ENLIGHTEN 2017 events that are free/open house and do not require a ticket to gain entry.  Access is subject to venue capacity.

How much do tickets to Enlighten cost?

Ticket prices range from $8 through to $190 (adults). Refer to each event for specific price details. There is also a range of free events.

I don’t have a credit card. How can I buy tickets to Enlighten?

You can visit a Ticketek outlet and pay by cash in person. Alternatively you can purchase tickets at the door of the event you are attending on event night (subject to availability). Ticket sales will commence one hour before the scheduled start time.

Visitors to Enlighten are strongly advised to secure tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

How do I collect my tickets?

There are a range of ticket collection and delivery options available, including:

  • collecting them from a Ticketek agent,
  • having them sent by mail, registered post or express delivery or
  • collecting them from the venue, one hour before the scheduled start time
  • EzyTickets – a print at home ticket

Refer to the Ticketek website for costs associated with post and express delivery.

What kind of concessions do you accept?

Pension cardholders, seniors cardholders and tertiary student ID card holders will be accepted for all Ticketek events. These people are required to provide evidence of this at time of purchase or collection e.g. pension card or student ID cards. Please note that children five years and under are admitted free.

Are Companion Cards accepted for Enlighten?

Yes.

The Companion Card is a credit-card sized photo ID card issued to people with a disability who require lifelong attendant care from a companion to participate at venues and activities. The card enables such people to participate without incurring the cost of a second ticket for their attendant carer.

Registered companions must present their photo ID Companion card when booking tickets, purchasing tickets or collecting tickets or at any time during the attendance at the venue or activity.

Companions will then receive a zero priced event ticket. Please note that the event ticket is not valid unless both the cardholder and the person to whom the Companion cardholder is registered is present and has purchased their own Enlighten ticket for the same date. Only the person whose photograph and name appear on the card can use the Companion Card.

Please note that the conditions of entry to events may vary depending on the nature of the event.

What age are children classified as?

Child prices apply to children 16 years and under. For events children 5 years and under are admitted free with a paying adult.

What is the Enlighten refund policy?

There is no refund or exchange on any ticket except in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Ticketing of Live Entertainment Events in Australia

Refunds or exchanges will only be given if the event is cancelled.

What happens if my ticket is lost or stolen?

When a patron is faced with a lost or stolen ticket, they must ring Ticketek on 13 28 49 as soon as this is realised.

What are the terms and conditions of my ticket?

Tickets are available for sale through Ticketek and their purchasing policy can be viewed on the Ticketek website.

What happens if it rains?

Enlighten includes a range of indoor and outdoor events. Outdoor events are subject to changing weather conditions. The event will continue in the case of rain and cold weather and will only be cancelled if the weather conditions are considered dangerous by Enlighten Event Management. This may occur at short notice, in which case patrons may exchange tickets for another night (subject to availability) or obtain a full refund.

Patrons accept that weather they might consider unsatisfactory may occur and acknowledge that tickets will not be exchanged or refunded unless the event is cancelled by Enlighten Event Management.

Some outdoor performances may be altered, postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather. This decision will be made by Enlighten Event Management in the interest of public and performer safety and does not entitle the ticket holder to a refund or exchange.

All ticket and non-ticket holders are advised to make provision for wet weather. The use of umbrellas will be permitted. Please be considerate of the safety and comfort of other visitors.

In the unlikely occurrence that the event is cancelled, information will be posted on the event website enlightencanberra.com.au. Details will also be communicated through local radio.

Event Organisers will take all reasonable efforts to notify of a cancellation ASAP, however due to the unpredictability of a change in weather conditions, cancellations may be at short notice.

Will I get a refund if it rains?

No. An event will continue in the case of rain and will only be cancelled if the weather conditions are considered dangerous by Enlighten Event Management. This may occur at short notice, in which case patrons may exchange tickets for another night (subject to availability) or obtain a full refund.

How will I know if an event is cancelled?

In the unlikely occurrence that the event is cancelled, information will be posted on the event website  enlightencanberra.com.au and the Facebook and Twitter pages for Events ACT and information will be released on local radio stations.

Ticketek will activate a cancellation message via email to ticket holders (subject to the time of the cancellation).

What happens if an event is cancelled?

If a paid event is cancelled by ENLIGHTEN Management, ticket holders to that event will be entitled to a full refund or exchange (subject to availability) in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Ticketing of Live Entertainment Events In Australia.

Transport and Parking

How do I get to Enlighten?

There are many ways to get to ENLIGHTEN, including:

  • Riding your bike
  • Catching an ACTION bus
  • Catch the shuttle bus
  • Catching a taxi or uber
  • Strolling from the city
  • Driving your car

Free Action Bus Enlighten Shuttle

Two shuttle buses will operate during the 4 main Enlighten event nights (3, 4, 10 & 11 March).

  • At 5 pm two buses will loop from the City Interchange Platform 10, pick-up at Commonwealth Ave (Regatta Point) and drop off at Treasury building (Langton Cres)
  • At 6 pm one bus will continue with the loops from the City Interchange Platform 10, pick-up at Commonwealth Ave (Regatta Point) and drop off at Treasury building (Langton Cres)
  • At 6 pm one bus will loop from Russell Offices car park and drop off at the National Archives

Both shuttles will depart the Enlighten site at 11 pm for final location drop off.

Bike

Breathe in the crisp autumn air and ride your bike to Enlighten. Bike racks are within the Entertainment Hub and at various participating attractions.

Taxi

Taxis may drop off and pick up at various locations within the Enlighten Entertainment Hub.

Walking

If you feel like taking in the amazing autumn sights of Canberra, Enlighten can be reached on foot.

As a guide, the Canberra Centre to Enlighten via Commonwealth Avenue crossing over Commonwealth Bridge takes approximately 40 minutes to walk..

Road Closures

The following road closures will  be implemented on event days from 6:30pm to 12 midnight:

  • King George Terrace – between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West
  • King Edward Terrace – between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West
  • National Library of Australia internal loop road
  • Parliament Square at Queen Victoria Terrace at the rear of the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House to restrict unauthorised vehicle access
  • Queen Elizabeth Terrace

The following road closure will be implemented between the hours of 5:00pm and midnight on event nights:

  • Parks Place West (after the entry/exit at the National Library car park.

The following road closure will be implemented in the event that the National Library car park fills to capacity:

  • Parks Place West and King Edward Terrace

The following road closure will be implemented between the hours of 5:00pm and 10pm on non event days and 5:00pm to midnight on event nights:

  • Mall Road West (Questacon Bus Loop).

Where can I park my car?

There are various free public car parks throughout the Parliamentary Triangle and at each of the participating attractions.  Refer to the event map for further details.

All attendees to Enlighten should be aware that it is an offence under the National Land (Road Transport) Ordinance 2014 to park a vehicle on open space in the area where Enlighten is being held.  Open space is any area that is not designed for the  movement or parking of motor vehicles, such as grassed areas, footpaths and landscaped areas.

The National Capital Authority will be enforcing parking regulations for the duration of this event, and attendees should ensure they park legally to avoid the risk of an infringement being issued to their vehicle.

Parking is free on weekends & public holidays and from 5pm on weekdays. At all other time parking fees apply.

Is there accessible parking?

Accessible parking is available in most of the public car parks.

Conditions of Entry

What are the conditions of entry?

Each attraction participating in Enlighten will have their own specific conditions of entry for Enlighten.  Please refer to the specific attraction event details for this information.

Patrons entering the Enlighten licensed areas are advised:

  • It is an offence to bring alcohol into a licensed area
  • It is an offence to remove alcohol from the licensed area
  • It is an offence for minors to purchase and consume liquor
  • It is an offence to purchase liquor for, or supply liquor to minors; and
  • Persons supplying liquor to minors will be reported to the police and penalties apply under the ACT Liquor Act 2010

Can I come to Enlighten if I am under 18?

Yes.

Please note that some events do have an age limit specified as a condition of entry. Refer to each event for conditions of entry an age limits.

Patrons entering the Enlighten licensed areas are advised:

  • The bar in the Enlighten Main Stage and the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets is a licensed area
  • It is an offence to bring alcohol into a licensed area
  • It is an offence to remove alcohol from the licensed area
  • It is an offence for minors to purchase and consume liquor
  • It is an offence to purchase liquor for, or supply liquor to minors; and
  • Persons supplying liquor to minors will be reported to the police and penalties apply under the ACT Liquor Act 2010

Food and beverage

Can I buy food and drinks at Enlighten?

Yes.  There will be a range of food and drink available for sale at Enlighten. There will be food offered at our market and a number of bars operating within the Parliamentary Triangle.

Some participating attractions will have food and drink available through their cafes.

Can I bring my own food and drink to the outdoor Entertainment Hub?

Yes.  You can bring your own food and drink to the Entertainment Hub. Please note that you are not permitted to bring your own alcohol.

Can I bring alcohol to the outdoor Entertainment Hub?

No, you are not permitted to take your own alcohol.

Please note that the area around the Aboriginal Tent Embassy is a designated alcohol-free zone.
